Earlier today, I read an article on the protest in North Dakota about the pipeline being built on Native American land. Eventually, the protest was successful and the construction of the pipeline was stopped. However, there was a lot of violence towards the protesters. Many were arrested, pepper sprayed, and were restrained as well. Was this violence really necessary? While they were doing a peaceful prayer, 126 people got arrested even though they were not doing anything hostile. This violence was very unecessary, especially when the natives won anyways. This made me realize how many people instantly resort to violence without really thinking about it, increasing tensions between both sides.
